Bird Nest Group

About

John Cunningham - Founder

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, John is an active real estate investor and is currently based in Philadelphia, PA. He purchased his first multifamily property in 2011, after graduating from Lehigh University and upon returning home from 3 years teaching English in Korea. This first purchase led to the founding of his real estate investment firm, Birdnest Group. John has directly sourced, raised capital, and operated small-mid multifamily transactions in numerous submarkets throughout Philadelphia, including Grays Ferry, Point Breeze, Rittenhouse, Passyunk, Old City, Northern Liberties, Fishtown and East Kensington. From 2017 – 2022, he founded and sold a short term rental “Airbnb” company with over 45 units under management in center city Philadelphia.
In his spare time, John loves the outdoors and traveling. He is also an avid woodworker, building fixtures for his properties out of reclaimed materials in his shop in Fishtown, Philadelphia. Rooted from his time surfing around the world, John is passionate about ocean conservation. A portion of Birdnest Group’s profits go to Conservation International, every year.

Why People Work With Us

We believe that business decisions are most effectively executed through relationships of trust and transparency. We do not engage in real estate transactions that do not benefit all whom they affect.

Mission Statement

We breath life back into dilapidated buildings by specializing in the acquisition and management of value-add multifamily assets.

Sustainable Materials

We use sustainable materials to furnish and construct many of our spaces throughout Philadelphia. We work with contractors and salvage yards throughout the city to re-claim lumber, primarily rescued Hemlock-spruce, and re-purpose it as furniture or construction finishes and fixtures in our projects. Moreover, in the re-developments we purchase, we always take care and rehabilitate the existing structure instead of demolishing and adding more waste to our landfills.

Conservation International

A small portion of Birdnest Group’s profits go to Conservation International, every single year.
